Pastoral Council Meeting Minutes (2-13-23)
Members Present:
Father Mike Roach, Dan Bacon, Phil Baumert, John “Eddie” Baker, Kevin Casel, Sherri Porterfield, Louis Angles, Betsy Lewey, Katie Klassen, and Patrick Schaub.
The opening prayer was read by Betsy Lewey
Katie Klassen Update:
The debt on the new church is down to a little under 1 million dollars.
Old Business:
Dan Bacon handed out 2 Point of Contact Ministry (POC) Brochures to each member of the Pastoral Council and requested those members to give those brochures to individuals who could react calmly and take control and take control during emergency situations. Sherri Porterfield discussed her findings from researching the By-laws of the Pastoral Council. The By-laws have not been updated since 2005. Sherri Porterfield and Phil Baumert met with Father Mike on February 24 to discuss the path forward for the By-laws. Sherri Porterfield, Phil Baumert, and Patrick Schaub will meet to update the By-laws and present to the Pastoral Council for approval. Dan Bacon mentioned that there are seven possible candidates to go through the Discernment process to become a member of the Pastoral Council. The Pastoral Council discussed arrangements for Council members to serve at the Confirmation reception. Kevin Casel discussed alternatives for the Narthex and stated that in the past, the Narthex was used for the Food Drive and the Coat Drive and Father Mike stated that in the long term, the church will use the Narthex as a conference space, and that in the past the Narthex had become a catch-all for various functions that used the Narthex as a storage space.
New Business:
Troy Sheeley is trying to find an appropriate spot in the Church to hold Basketball Tournament Watch Party. Typically this has been done in the Social Hall. Father Mike explained that the Social Hall Kitchen has what is necessary to host an event like this whereas the Church Hall is only used for certain events where a limited use kitchen is required. The Pastoral Council briefly went over facility usage policymaking. Kevin Casel discussed that school personnel approached him and requested that a plan be in place for snow removal of the sidewalks at the school during snow events, as there was a snow event on January 25 that required snow removal from the sidewalks at the school. Katie Klassen stated that the church is hiring a snow removal crew to clear snow from sidewalks as necessary.
Father Mike Update:
Stations of the Cross will be held on Friday evenings starting during the week of Ash Wednesday (February 22). Father Mike discussed the Spaghetti dinner to be held on Saturday February 18 for students travelling to Steubenville, Ohio. Father Mike also stated that there are 75 students who will be confirmed at Confirmation on March 9, 2023.
