Pastoral Council Meeting Minutes (9-12-22)

Members Present:

Father Mike Roach, Dan Bacon, Yvette Lopez, Phil Baumert, Katie Klassen, John “Eddie” Baker, Kevin Casel, Sherri Porterfield, and Patrick Schaub.

The opening prayer was read by Dan Bacon

Katie Klassen Update:

Seven classrooms were without power, as of 9-12-22. The old AC units are having problems. Katie Klassen will contact Hales AC to get bids for AC repairs. Dan Bacon will help Katie Klassen write protocols for use of spaces, ie, Parish Hall and Social Hall. The floor for the gym was delivered during the week of 9-4-22. The floor mats (carpet squares) weigh 5 pounds 5 ounces and are 3 foot x 6 foot. The pieces fit snug and do not overlap. Five to six people install the floor. The floor is cleaned by vacuuming.

Old Business:

The figures for ministry numbers have been coming in well from groups like the Knights of Columbus etc, We are up to approximately 30,000 ministry hours. Katie Klassen will have the Finance Report ready soon to publish and present to the parish members. The Ministry Survey information and the Finance Report will go out together when presented to the parish members. The Ministry Fair went well. The Heritage Fair did not get much interest as there is too much work for too few people.

Emergency Operation Plan:

Eddie Baker is working with Betsy on fine-tuning the Emergency Operation Plan. An announcement will be placed in the bulletin around January 1, 2023. Dan Bacon will send out a link to the Emergency Operation Plan.

Hostile Intruder Update From Katie Klassen:

Some of the school staff went to the Hostile Intruder training conducted by Robert Bratcher, School Resource Officer from the Liberty, Missouri Police Department

Hillcrest Update:

Yvette stated that Ernie Collins said that Hillcrest has been on the backburner for high school students to help. Three families have committed to assist.

New Business:

Per Dan Bacon, the theme of Security versus Community was discussed. Security is like locking doors as we want to keep people safe at night. When considering security, you don’t want to tell everybody everything but when considering Community, you want to be open. The Calendar was good for evangelism but is no longer available for security reasons. The office should be open after noon. Would it be possible to ask volunteers to staff the office from noon to 5:00 pm? Kevin Casel addressed dead spots in the sound system in the church. Dan Bacon plans to schedule a meeting with Danny Baker and members of the music staff to brainstorm ways to improve sound quality in the church.

Father Mike Update:

Father Mike Roach stated that the Ministry Fair went great. There were 250 people during the day and 350 people at night. The Bishop was happy with the Ministry fair and he said that he felt very welcome at Saint James. RE is kicking off in the middle school and in the high school. We have not had RE with high school students for a while. The Bishop said that he will track Covid levels and if levels remain stable, the Precious Blood may be served as soon as Advent (December).
