Pastoral Council Meeting Minutes (5-8-23)

Members Present:

Father Mike Roach, Dan Bacon, Phil Baumert, John “Eddie” Baker, Sherri Porterfield, Louis Angles, Yvette Lopez, Betsy Lewey, Libby Hernandez, Kevin Casel, and Patrick Schaub.

The opening prayer was read by Patrick Schaub

Old Business: Dan Bacon discussed that there are 7 candidates identified for the Point of Contact Ministry and we are looking for 5 more. Brochures are in the Usher’s room. Betsy Lewey provided an update on the First Aid Ministry and stated that as soon as cabinets are ready, she will be ready. Katie Klassen is ordering them. Dan Bacon discussed the Discernment Process. So far, out to the 7 who initially expressed interest, 1 has dropped out. Jay Meecham is finding it difficult to get everyone to meet. He has not met with the entire group together yet. The Pastoral Council would like to have something in place by June 30. Bylaws were reviewed and approved. Phil Baumert stated that it would be a good idea to have an announcement made by the Youth Minister to have 2 members become members of the Pastoral Council. The Retreat Committee Members: Dan Bacon, Kevin Casel, and Patrick Schaub met on May 18 to discuss planning of the Pastoral Council Retreat to be held on August 5. 

New Business: Election of officers for 2023-2024 was held and the new officers are:  Kevin Casel (Chair), Phil Baumert (Vice-Chair), and Sherri Porterfield (Secretary). Dan Bacon discussed the Important Dates Calendar, ie, December – Discernment Chair makes announcement, April – Retreat Committee Starts, May – Announce New Members and Officer Elections, August – ID Youth Representatives. Phil Baumert recommended sending Calendar invites for upcoming events. Sherri Porterfield will speak to a friend about becoming the scribe for the Pastoral Council.

Remarks and Closing Prayer: Father Mike stated that there were lots of graduation activities planned for May at Saint James and things are going well. Father Mike concluded with the closing prayer.
