Present: Dee Rosekrans, Cindi Lamas, John Demerly,Scott Kollasch, Fr. Lac Pham, Jeff Rider, Grant Geary, Anne Winter, and Chris Fullenwider, Deacon Jay Meacham

Guest Speaker: 

Jennifer Scanlon-Smith, Principal, St. James Catholic School

  • Great Opening
  • Enrollment increased  377 to 413 (83% Catholics)
  • 62 PK,228 K-5, and 122 Middle School
  • 257 families
  • Parking after school now worked out
  • Financial – 50/50 tithing and full tuition  (K-8 Tuition$6375 [8300])
  • 69 MOST Scholarships 
  • 25% enrollment growth 
  • Wonderful back to school event hosted by PTO prior to the beginning of school
  • New Website to be up and going soon
  • 17th going to Pius for algebra
  •  Enthronement Mass for the Sacred Heart of Jesus
  • Auction – Nov. 7 – $303,000 goal
  • Capital Campaign goal from Jenn: Safety is a priority 
    • 7 -8 years ago going to safety conferences
    • Missouri school Board education
    • Alert badges for staff 
    • Entrance not safe
  • Grandparent Day
    • Challenges- so many strangers coming into the building for all students, coming too early, a lot of logistics to manage with so many people, must RSVP, @550 guests and 1000 people in the building using different entrances. It went well. Parking was still a challenge.

Pastoral Council Involvement in the Church – Fr. Lac

  • Pastoral Council Members be More Visible 
    • At Mass 
      • Be approachable
      • Every other month have PC member sitting at table and be a listening posts
      • Wear Pastoral Name Badge to church functions
    • Liaisons to different parish groups
  • Spiritual
    • Through Liturgy
  • Social aspect
    • Helping poor with help
    • Target specific groups 
      • Teens
    • Being able to welcome people with different views
  • Renewal of the Church
    • Vatican 2 to rediscover our apostoltic 

Capital Campaign Update – Fr. Lac

  • Fr. Mike Roach
    • Preparation is going very well
    • Kickoff in October, first and second week
  • Packet Distribution Committee’s Request 

Council representatives for School Board and Finance 

  • Finance – Dee R.  (Tuesday 22 of September – usually the 2nd Tuesday of the month)
  • School Board – Scott Kollasch and Ann Winter(4th Monday 5:30)

Marriage Ministry

  • Deacon Jay Meacham presenter
  • Lead Marriage Couples
  • Meeting on 9/15, 6:30, front conference room

Sound System

  • Wichita company hard to have them come up
  • Parts hard to find
    • Finally in
    • Still need fine tuning
    • Panels installed
  • Gathering Space speakers are not connected
  • Organ is fixed

Pastoral Council By-Laws

 November: Chalk the Door, which honor the holiday of Epiphany 

  • Chalk Kits – Goal for these kits ready to go on Christmas Eve and Christmas day (chalk and instructions)
  • History – Feast of the three Kings and brought gifts to Jesus
    • Bless the lintel of the door with a  blessing code.
