Shouldn’t future members be responsible for helping pay off the loan as well as current members?

The implications of that question are a bit more far-reaching than what might appear.  On the surface the answer is: that as new parishioners join our congregation we do have a plan to appeal to them to pledge to help pay down the loan.  It is important to state that we are not looking to grow our parish family because it will help us financially. We want to grow because that is the natural result of a vibrant, Christ-centered parish.  Christ is the vine and we are the branches. We have built the vineyard and tilled the soil. We now pray that new shoots will spring forth, not to help us pay down the debt but because this is what Christ calls us to do – Go Forth and Spread the Good News!
