The opening prayer was read by Louis Angles:

After the Opening Prayer, the Chair of the Pastoral Council, Dan Bacon, asked Father Mike if he had any updates.

Father Mike stated that the coming weekend (October 16-17) will commemorate the 2nd anniversary of the new church. Also next weekend, there will be envelopes sent out and envelopes in the pew for the Bishop’s Catholic Charities Campaign, which generally brings in $50,000.

Dan Bacon then asked Libby Hernandez if she had any updates on the School Auction. Libby stated that the Knights of Columbus did catering and a drive thru. The rough numbers are a gross amount of $119,000. The goal for profit is normally $100,000 to $110,000. This is the second year of doing the School Auction virtually. The money raised will go towards updating the school office and making it safer. The School Auction will be in-person next year. Libby would like to get a Chair for Advertising for the School Auction. Deacon Chuck suggested sending email notifications for the Auction. Libby stated that the school is ending its 1st Quarter this week. The students are doing well on assessments.

Dan Bacon went over the “Getting to Know You” dinner. 150 invitations were sent. Only 20 people said they would attend, so it was decided not to do it.

RC brought up mentorship to contact new members. Before Covid, there was a Welcoming Coffee for new parishioners, organized by Judy Keisling and Kirsten Maggi. Even before Covid, the numbers were not large, The Pastoral Council may encourage starting the Welcoming Coffee in 6 months to one year, after people are going to meetings post-Covid.

RC suggested starting a Welcoming Committee. Dan mentioned that there will be a news release (to Catholic Radio, Liberty Courier Tribune, covering the New Evangelization Plan. The survey for 2022 will start in April.

Father Mike will mention during mass that the New Evangelization fliers will be put out. RC suggested letting ministries introduce themselves during mass and use as a tool to increase their numbers.

The Council discussed Active Shooter training. Louis Angles will speak to a member of the Liberty Police Department who will speak to the Pastoral Council about Active Shooter training and based on what the Council thinks, the training could be extended to ushers.

The Council discussed the mass for Our Lady of Guadalupe. It falls on December 12, which is a Sunday, so the celebration may occur on the night of Friday December 10.

RC discussed the Military Outreach Ministry (MOM) which will be doing a fund-raiser this Friday 10-15 at the Cable-Dahlmer Arena in Independence, MO.

RC stated that he will organize a Christmas Novena to occur in November through the end of December. This is an opportunity for moms to get together and to go over the Christmas Story.

Deacon Chuck suggested starting a new ministry to widows and widowers. This would not require much work, just send a note and invite to a meal.

Father Mike stated that we will be starting a Grief Group starting Monday October 18 and going for 6 weeks.
