Pastoral Council Meeting Minutes (11-8-21)

Members Present:

Father Mike Roach, Deacon Chuck Koesterer, Dan Bacon, Arsenio “RC” Arciga, Phil Baumert, Betsy Lewey, Yvette Lopez, Louis Angles. ++ Katie Klassen

The opening prayer was read by Dan Bacon:

Fr. Mike Update:

There will be a remembrance service for the people that passed from our parish this past year on 11/21.

This is important this year, since so many did not get a chance to have typical services to remember their lives.

Juanita Thornton is running a small group of those that have lost loved ones and is doing a great job with this important group.

Christmas mass schedule will be Christmas Eve 3:00, 5:00, and 10:00 pm, and Christmas morning at 9:00am.

New Years Eve service at 5:00pm, not certain about the schedule for 1/1, and 1/2.

Katie Klassen Update.

Salt Delivered for Winter.

Parking lot snow will be removed by the same company as last year.

There are two bad furnaces that need to be dealt with. The Gym, and the Narthex of the old church building. Parts are on a substantial back order. Working on options.

Generally Tithing is down a bit, and attendance is growing back up.

Looking into an issue with water on the parking lot near the fountain in front of the church.

Should have enough shovelers for this winter but will ask for more.

Deacon Chuck Update:

Discussed Hillcrest Ministry, and Lori Tajchman’s desire to not have this be a part of her leadership, as it was previously led by Cecelia. Lori has to much on her plate to manage this appropriately.

There are a variety of people involved that can keep this moving along, a search for someone, or a small group to take the lead on this important ministry.

There was discussion on how this is currently handled and several ideas for paths going forward.

Mentioned that Don Ollier is looking to retire from his duties at St. Mary’s food kitchen.

Early in these discussions, but we are committed to keeping this ministry active, and finding someone that will lead this, and provide the great service that Don has for so many years.

Considering recognition for Don for his years of service.

Deacon Chuck briefly discussed a Mental Health Ministry.

This would be led by a group of Deacons throughout the Diocese.

There was brief discussion of the Christmas Novena, looking to get more people involved.

RC also mentioned a Nativity scene competition.

Attempting to get more families participating.

Props to Dan for keeping the new meeting format (efficient, on task, and on time).

Open prayer will be offered by Phil Baumert for December Meeting.

Minutes submitted by fill in scribe, Phil Baumert.  Apologies for any items missed, or incorrectly reported.
