Pastoral Council Meeting Minutes (2-15-22)

Members Present:

Father Mike Roach, Deacon Chuck Koesterer, Dan Bacon, Phil Baumert, Louis Angles, Betsy Lewey, “RC” Arciga, Katie Klassen, Libby Hernandez, and Patrick Schaub.

The opening prayer was read by Libby Hernandez.

Katie Klassen Update:

Katie stated that Gene Greenwall and Ernie Collins will be volunteer coordinators. The church will go back to selling hope gift cards on Sundays at the 8:00 am and 10:30 am masses.

Fr. Mike Update:

Father Mike said that things are going well. 73 students were confirmed at the Confirmation ceremony. Father Mike said that the Bishop said that Confirmation went well.

Libby Hernandez Update:

Libby stated that attendance at the school is going well. Father Mike stated that Libby has a new position at the school as a Family Liaison and she has been well-received in that post. Libby stated that the students at the school have persevered well through all the challenges that Covid-19 has presented.

Deacon Chuck Update:

Deacon Chuck stated that Confirmation went well and he said it was the best group of students so far. Deacon Chuck said that the Bishop did a good job. Juan Rodriguez will be confirmed as a Deacon in June. It would be nice to have a reception for Mr. Rodriguez.

Old Business:

Dan discussed the Saint Mary’s Food kitchen and plans for the replacement of Don Ollier. There may be 3 teams and that 7 people volunteered to be cooks. Dennis Federof will coordinate commodities. Trey and Judy Katzer will coordinate menu planning. Len Platt will coordinate transportation. Money is collected on the third Sunday of each month for Saint Mary’s Food Kitchen. For the month of March, Saint James Parish will dedicate Donuts and Coffee to Dan Ollier and encourages parishioners to stop by and thank Don for his work with the Food Kitchen. A note saying “Thank you Don!” may be placed on the TV monitors.

New Business:

 Phil stated that there was no update on Hillcrest Ministries, other than painting is needed. RC noted that there is no INRI behind the Cross and provided a proposed design. Father Mike said he would take it from here. The Council discussed voting on new members. There is normally 9 members. There were 10 members for a while. There are 8 members now so we are low by one member. No one else who already went through the Discernment process is interested in joining the Pastoral Council. The Discernment process could begin as early as April. Father Mike will ask a new parishioner who has completed the Discernment process before, if he would be interested in assisting with our Discernment process. A note will go in the bulletin for two Sundays asking parishioners who are interested in joining the Pastoral Council, to go through the Discernment process. The Safety Subcommittee will meet on Tuesday February 22 at 7:00pm.
