Pastoral Council Meeting Minutes (5-9-22)

Members Present:

Father Mike Roach, Deacon Chuck Koesterer, Yvette Lopez, Phil Baumert, Louis Angles, Betsy Lewey, “RC” Arciga, Katie Klassen, Libby Hernandez, Patrick Schaub, and Jay Meacham.

The opening prayer was read by Patrick Schaub.

“RC” Arciga Update:

RC brought up discussion about the INRI above the Corpus and Father Mike stated that the decision has been made to keep the Corpus as is.

Jay Meacham Discernment Presentation:

Jay Meacham will administer 2 sessions of the Discernment process. The first session is scheduled for Wednesday May 18 (for 2 hours), and the second is scheduled for Monday May 23 (for 1-2 hours). Jay previously facilitated the Discernment process at St. Charles and at Annunciation in Kearney. Jay plans to have the 6 Discernment participants meet, listen and be approachable, have homework, conduct an affirmation process and test for consensus to come up with 3 names. Jay asked the current Pastoral Council what we were looking for in new members. Jay stated that the purpose of the Pastoral Council is to provide spiritual direction for the Parish. Jay stated that he and his family joined Saint James in July of 2021.

Libby Hernandez Update:

Libby stated that school will end on Thursday May 19 at noon. Libby stated that graduation will be on May 10 2022. Libby stated that there are 321 students currently enrolled and that these numbers are good. Libby stated that the Golf Tournament went well.

Katie Klassen Update:

Katie stated that the financials are looking well. The installation for the air conditioner over the Social Hall occurred on May 9, 2022. Katie stated that the church is pricing having a railing at the handicapped ramp. Mowing is going well. The carpet in the Narthex has been removed. There are future plans to turn the previous church into an event space.

Deacon Chuck Update:

Deacon Chuck stated that there are 17 Deacon Candidates to be ordained over Father’s Day Weekend. Deacon Chuck is working on the beginning stage of a mental health ministry. This effort is being directed at the Diocessian level. This may result in a Mental Health First Aid Class for parents.

Yvette Lopez Update:

Yvette discussed planning for having between 6 to 12 people to do repairs at Hillcrest when needed.

Religious Education Update:

Ernie Collins is hitting the ground running with Religious Education, he is coordinating with the youth to do a Habitat-For-Humanity-Like Project with the middle school and high school.

The next meeting of the Pastoral Council will be Monday August 8.
